Core Wines

My first foray into viticulture and winemaking was the 2017 purchase of my little Shiraz vineyard in Heathcote, which included an old homestead on the property, a cellar door, a winemaking shed, some winemaking gear and importantly an endowment of 20+ year relationships with some very special growers and their unique vineyards.
In essence, I am a négociant producer. However, these special, well-established relationships that I have nurtured means there is a core to my portfolio that runs in a similar fashion to an estate-grown production. I have the privilege to work with these vineyards, year on year, learning how they interact with their unique sub-climates and the seasonality of each vintage to develop the quality and purity of expression of each unique site.
My core wines are about purity of expression and lineage. They are made with purpose; my goal each year is to mark a positive step forward with each wine, to iterate not drastically change. My approach to these wines is considered and decisions about small changes that improve these wines are not taken lightly. Each year I aim to bring a sense of balance to the wine, to improve quality, to let the wine speak of its expression of place and heritage. My hope is that you find these wines elegant, composed and of deep importance to me – compelling. I hope that each year you look forward to their release with excited anticipation of what this vintage will unveil.
