Heathcote is famous for its rich, full-bodied Shiraz—wines that make a powerful impression while still offering warmth and comfort, especially on a cold winter’s day. There’s something uniquely satisfying about enjoying a glass of Heathcote Shiraz by the fire as the temperature drops outside.

Our aim is always to craft a true expression of Heathcote Shiraz: a wine that balances refinement and finesse with smooth texture and subtle oak influence, finishing long with layers of complexity. This vision comes to life in our Matilda Reserve Shiraz.

Sourced from two distinctive vineyards in Kimbolton (60%) and Colbinabbin (40%), the 2021 Matilda Reserve Shiraz brings together boldness and elegance in equal measure, delivering a wine that is both powerful and beautifully composed.

Harvested by hand on the 4th and 20th of March, the fruit was fermented on skins for four weeks to build depth, structure, and intensity. After fermentation, the wine was matured for 24 months in a thoughtful combination of two new French oak puncheons and one two-year-old American oak barrique, adding both elegance and subtle complexity.

Bottled in May 2023 without fining or filtration, this Shiraz retains its natural character—so a small amount of sediment is to be expected. Sealed with Diam 10 and carefully hand-labelled, it is a full-flavoured, fruit-driven wine with layers of richness, finishing with a lively spice and lingering white pepper note.

Region: Heathcote

Palate: From Heathcote, this Shiraz opens with generous notes of black cherry and ripe, juicy plum, layered with hints of deep mulberry. A subtle savoury edge carries through the palate, leading into a lively white pepper finish. Silky and smooth, it’s supported by soft, well-integrated tannins that give the wine both structure and approachability, while allowing the rich fruit character to shine.
